Promoting Contemplative and Compassionate Approaches to End of Life & Elder Care

I recently worked as a chaplain intern in an end of life facility. I heard many heart breaking stories from people whose Medical Insurance and Dental Insurance did not really get the job done when it was truly needed. Some people I met ended up being forced to sell their homes as they experienced more health issues and moved into the village due to financial struggles. Other people I met had insurance coverages that were serving them quite well even with significant health issues. Some of the issues were related to Medicare and some were not.

As my parents and other family members are now getting older and some are experiencing similar issues, I've been thinking a lot lately about how to find and help family members find affordable health insurance that actually works when its needed most. I believe this is a topic that there needs to be a significant amount of education and re-education on (not to mention reform). What are the best resources out there for information to help guide people (both younger and older) to make insurance decisions that will be wise and effective for the long term?
